Ryan is Racing again for a great cause!

NRG Coach Ryan Cain is getting back to racing this year after taking some time away to start a family with his wife Lauren. Ryan has recently learned that both Lauren and his daughters are genetically susceptible to heart issues and he is raising money for the Ottawa Heart institute Foundation. You can read more of his story below:

Dear Friends and Family,

I recently took on the challenge of training for the Ironman 70.3 Mont-Tremblant as part of Team Heart in support of the University of Ottawa Heart Institute Foundation.

After several years racing as a professional triathlete, I took a few years away from the sport to focus on my family and my career with National Defence. When I was approached about coming back to triathlon to fundraise for the Ottawa Heart institute, I committed immediately. Heart issues have affected several of my family members; my father had a stroke when I was in university and eventually required a pacemaker. More recently, my sister in law had emergency open heart surgery on her 33rd birthday to correct an ascending aortic dissection and replace a valve. This one gets even more personal; as the cause of my sister in laws heart issues have been determined to be genetic in nature and as such my wife (Lauren), and my two daughters (Raegan and Finley) are now followed by the Heart Institute. This was obviously the best possible reason to get me back into a sport that I love for something much more important than going fast and personal achievements.

I am sharing this with you now with hope that you will also show your support for the critical cardiac care, research, and prevention programs right here in Ottawa. Thanks to support like ours, the Heart Institute will soon open the doors to a new 145,000 sq ft. facility which will allow them to provide care to more patients each year. In order to make sure the new building is ready, they are focused on funding the purchase of highly specialized equipment.

I am asking you to join me in supporting the Heart Institute by making a donation that will go right to heart of care in Ottawa. Like mine, your tax-deductible gift will make a difference in the lives of so many people!
