In 2001, after losing precious seconds because of my conservative descending and cornering on the bike at Powerman Tennessee, Nigel took me out for an hour riding lesson in order to prepare for the St. Croix 1/2 Ironman - a course which is all about cornering and descending. Now, I have had many people try to help me get over my cycling fears and yet Nigel's instruction seemed to really click with me. He was patient, funny and yet very skilled. As a qualified school teacher myself, I could definitely see Nigel's innate teaching ability shining through.
I finished that one-on-one session with a tremendous amount of confidence. I went onto place 2nd at the St. Croix 1/2 Ironman and I didn't lose one single second on the bike! That course usually scares me to death. But in 2001, I tackled that course and cornered and descended like a master. I owe all of that to Nigel. He is in a class by himself!
