I first met Nigel and Sylvie in 2005 over the Christmas holidays. After completing my first Ironman (IM Wisconsin ’05) a few months earlier, I had mixed emotions about my performance and knew that I could do much better. I had been using a different triathlon coach in preparing for my first Ironman and needed to think of changes to have a better 2006 race season. I checked out NRG PT’s website and noticed that Sylvie had just joined the coaching team. I was thrilled since I had heard of Sylvie and knew she was cleaning up all the races in our age division (and I was happy to read that she had also recently turned pro!).
I was so impressed and surprised that Nigel and Sylvie would take time out of their Christmas holidays to meet and discuss my race plans for 2006. I should not have been so surprised since all season they continued to go above and beyond any expectations I had for a triathlon coach. From our initial meeting (where they subtly questioned whether I wanted to focus on marathons or triathlons?), to Sylvie’s constant inquiring about my training, aches, pains, energy and nutrition, they have been professional, knowledgeable, approachable and honestly seem to care as much about our races as we do.
After that initial meeting, Sylvie made a detailed plan for me to achieve my goals, which she frequently amended due to my schedule. She constantly asked for feedback and updates so she could tailor my training based on exactly how I was feeling, not just follow some generic training plan. Her attention to detail is obvious in all her planning, race strategies and nutrition plan…we even discussed nutrition plan C! Sylvie’s communication is always so timely that she would even use a neighbor’s computer if her Internet connection was down.
As for my 2006 race season, I was thrilled with my results and had PB’s in every race I entered. I have since moved to Hong Kong and would not consider being coached by anyone else. I still have lots of triathlon goals to accomplish and I know that Sylvie will continue to help me achieve them.
Thank-you Nigel, Fiona and especially Sylvie.
